چکیده

The adverse effects of hostile marine environment on concrete structure have inevitably resulted in huge economic loss and may contribute to catastrophic failure. Concrete is susceptible weathering, particularly under wetting-drying action (WDA), although its current state the art well established. diverse characteristics WDA at different site locations compromised reliability laboratory works. objective this study review impact provide an overview research trend, aiming identify gap. deterioration mechanisms respect are identified. influential factors analyzed. physical mechanical properties corrosion resistance exposed discussed. aggravates by hastening intrusion inimical compounds such as chloride, sulphate carbon dioxide. Chloride convection zone can be expanded two three times cause a significant cover loss. Physical damage starts with efflorescence staining, followed mortar delamination, aggregate detachment spalling, leading properties. use mineral admixtures fly ash silica fume improves against corrosion, but refining effect lead over-accumulation risking long-term durability. Limited works identified synergy between chemical deteriorations, validation simulated experiment, volume expansion, mass change tensile strength concrete.

Damage Evolution of Concrete Exposed to Sulfate Attack Under Drying- Wetting Cycles

The damage evolution of concrete subjected to drying-wetting cycles in different concentration of sodium sulfate solution was investigated based on micro and macro-observations. Through the experiment, weight loss, compressive strength loss and the damage layer thickness of concrete were measured after different drying-wetting cycles. The mechanical properties degradation in the damage layer of...

Deterioration of Concrete in Ambient Marine Environment (RESEARCH NOTE)

Structural concrete exposed to marine environment deserves special attention as the diffused sea salts chemically react with harden cement matrix and forms various expansive/leachable compounds leading to loss of material, strength, cracking, spalling etc. This study cover the effect of sea water on the specimens cast from two grades of concrete exposed to simulated marine environment over a ye...

Joint Deterioration in Concrete Pavements

Concrete pavements located in cold climates have been experiencing premature joint deterioration. Entrapment of moisture in the joints saturates the surrounding concrete, rendering it susceptible to freeze–thaw damage. To identify and to isolate the variables that might be causing this localized deterioration, concrete cores were obtained from deteriorated and non-deteriorated sections of US 35...

A wetting and drying scheme for POM

In shallow-water models, wetting and drying (WAD) are determined by the total water depth D 1⁄4 0 for ‘dry’ and >0 for ‘wet’. Checks are applied to decide the fate of each cell during model integration. It is shown that with bottom friction values commonly used in coastal models, the shallow-water system may be cast into a Burger’s type equation for D. For flows dominated by D (i.e. jrDj jrH j,...

A wetting and drying scheme for ROMS

The processes of wetting and drying have many important physical and biological impacts on shallow water systems. Inundation and dewatering effects on coastal mud flats and beaches occur on various time scales ranging from storm surge, periodic rise and fall of the tide, to infragravity wave motions. To correctly simulate these physical processes with a numerical model requires the capability o...
